INDEPENDENT SHOPPING RESEARCH NO ASSUMED EQUIVALENCE
REVEAL THE DUPES

Editorial Policy, Independence & Standards

Our editorial policy is designed to protect the usefulness of Reveal the Dupes as a shopping research resource. A comparison should make a decision easier to understand, not simply make a product more likely to sell.

Research before recommendation

Product specifications should be checked against available original sources, such as the official manufacturer’s product page, label, manual or published ingredient list. Retailer descriptions and third-party observations can add context but should not silently replace primary documentation. We document material limits, conflicts and details that cannot be established. An ingredient appearing in two products does not establish that the formulas or their effects are equivalent.

Evidence must match the label

“Source-checked research” refers to a comparison assembled from published information and attributed sources, not personal examination. “Hands-on tested” is reserved for genuine inspection or use, with the method, scope and conditions explained. Reader submissions are leads, not automatically independent verification. We never invent tests, quote unseen packaging or calculate arbitrary similarity percentages.

Selection and independence

We select topics based on the genuine shopping questions they raise, the usefulness of comparing them and the quality of information available. Affiliate programmes, commercial sponsorship and the promise of a large discount are not adequate reasons for an editorial recommendation. Where a product has been supplied by a brand, a writer has a relevant commercial relationship, or a placement is sponsored, the relationship should appear in the article.

Authors, reviewers and updates

Bylines link to contributor profiles, where actual experience and relevant background can be entered. Reviewers should be named only when they actually reviewed a page. Significant corrections should be dated, with an explanation when they affect a recommendation. Price and availability references describe what was checked on the recorded date, not a promise about today’s stock.

Reader suggestions and moderation

The submission form sends ideas to a private editorial queue. We do not publish submitter email addresses or accept anonymous tips as verified factual findings without further checks. Reports of potential counterfeits, unsafe products or unlawful conduct require especially careful verification.

Corrections, concerns and disputes

If you believe we have misunderstood a specification, overlooked an important safety consideration or misstated a product’s origin, please read How to Request a Correction and include the relevant evidence. Brands can submit documentation, but may not purchase favourable conclusions. For more details, see our methodology and advertising policy.
